Famous people were still people. Governments made terrible decisions. Armies screwed things up. Leaders had egos. Crowds got carried away. Humanity has always possessed an extraordinary ability to be completely confident five minutes before disaster.
That's where Political Blasphemy comes in.
What we make fun of
Decisions, hypocrisy, ego, propaganda, institutions, legends, terrible plans and the people who were absolutely certain everything was under control.
Some comics begin with documented history. Some deliberately exaggerate it for the joke. Sometimes the historical record is ridiculous enough that we barely have to help.
Satire, not a textbook
Political Blasphemy is parody and satire. Historical events, public figures and institutions may be simplified, caricatured or exaggerated for comedic effect. When a historical record is uncertain, the joke should be treated as a joke—not as a substitute for historical research.
The target is conduct, decisions, power, hypocrisy, arrogance and absurdity—not a person's race, sex, faith, disability or other inherent trait.
The creative north star is simple: understand it instantly, reward a second look, and make it strong enough to wear on a shirt.
